The Katsu shape is one of my very favorites to carve. Overall it may well be my very favorite shape. There are very specific rules and a very specific way for it be carved. While no two are alike there is a very strong core shape that exists from piece to piece for it to be a Katsu.
This particular Katsu is a classic example of the shape. The material used, Gila, featuring indigo and rich yellow, is an unusual but wonderful mix of colors. It always gives me a grin. The shape is such that simple as well as complex patterned materials shine.
Katsu in Gila will come nestled in a Neil Flancbaum created buckskin leather pouch.
