7/22/20: Yesterday, through the marvel of modern medicine, I received my second new hip. It went extremely well. I arrived at the surgery center at 6AM and was home by noon. After my first hip replacement on 5/19 there was only so far I could progress with one very bad hip remaining. I had recently gotten to the point where I was walking with a cane, doing stairs, and driving, but my time in the shop was very limited to two brief occasions. I couldn’t risk a fall in advance of my second surgery. All of that behind me, last night I was able to take four unassisted normal steps. That doesn’t sound like much but it was huge. I still have some time with the walker ahead of me but my physical therapist predicted that with the new hip and now old strong hip/leg it should be a breeze. Breeze or not, PT will be and has been a lot of very hard work since January. I’m thinking that it should get me back in the shop in three or so weeks. The best is yet to come.
